We visited the ancient city of Merv which was a major city on the Silk Road. There were some incredible sites to see but our favorite was the “ice box”. The ice box was a building that stored ice and snow throughout summer after prepping during winter. The people would fill the inside of a building with snow and ice to the complete top and with the thickness of the walls and structure of the building, the snow would keep all throughout the blazing hot summers. This was a big power move for the Sultan of Merv during that time since he was able to have ice during summer which was unheard of. The third and fourth photo are of us inside of the ice box.
