Our border crossing experience was very uneventful and low stress despite an approximate 4 hour delay. We are very grateful for it being uneventful and low stress to say the least. The ferries out of Algeciras going to Tanger Med often times have delays so we prepped for a potential delay and alas, the delay happened but that was no issue for us. We didn’t have any plans once we got into Morocco and knew there was a hotel by the port if we got in late. It was also a beautiful day outside to wait outside for the ferry so that helped too! Once we got loaded onto the ferry, we headed to passport control to get our passports stamped and all set by the Moroccan government. Once we arrived to the port, we were interested in seeing how the customs process would go to enter the new country. We both cheered when we drove off the boat because it is a new continent and country with the bike, yahoo!! From reading other’s experiences online with Moroccan customs, it varied immensely. Some people said it took them 11 hours at customs, other said 15 minutes. We were probably at the 1.5 hour mark so not too awful! Part of the customs process was getting our vehicle x-rayed…Domino got his first x-ray by a big machine. After we exited customs, we headed straight to the ATM to get some cash since most exchanges will be with cash and also to purchase vehicle insurance. It was all very straightforward and we were then on our way! We stayed in the hotel that was near the port so we didn’t have to drive at dusk and had a good night’s rest in preparation of our drive to Chefchaouen the next day.
