Guinea pigs were domesticated in the Andes around 5,000–7,000 years ago, long before the Spanish arrived during colonization. Additionally, the people in the Andes eat guinea pigs! It is a delicacy rather than an everyday meal for the people in the Andes, it's usually eaten on special occasions like festivals, weddings, or family gatherings. It is now semi-popular to see at restaurants as well.
We wanted to try it so Austin ordered it one evening for dinner. We usually share meals so we get to try more than one thing on the menu so we essentially shared it. It had great flavor but there was not too much meat in total.
