Edinburgh Hill is a stunning rock formation of columnar basalt with uniform hexagonal columns formed by a magma cooled slowly beneath the earth's surface which allowed a consistent pattern of hexagonal columns to form. Over time, the columns and "hill" were exposed through the breakthrough and erosion of softer rock surrounding it. The rock is about 180m (600ft) tall shooting up from sea level.
