We visited Mont Saint Michel today via walking the bay from Genêts. In order to walk the bay, you have to hit the tides right, otherwise you may be swimming back or you may get munched by quicksand! Austin is a tides king and helped find the tides chart to ballpark when to start our journey there and back. It was an unreal day.

Many people hire guides since there is quicksand throughout the bay, but we decided to venture out on our own. On the way there, we took a longer route that was not too direct after we observed others walking the path and didn't run into any quicksand or thick mud. We joked about how there was no quicksand in the area. On the way back was a different story. We decided we would try to straight shot it and see what would happen. We saw one group do this to start but they were an outlier. During the straight shot back, we slowly started walking through deep, thick mud and eventually we were up to our knees in it curious if we should turn around to try to find an alternative route. We had seen a few people trek through it and made it fine so we kept going on the direct path with a slight alteration. We ended up walking through a little riverbed that was more firm than the mud itself. We walked approximately 1 mile through the thick mud and were pretty stoked once it lightened up and we were only ankle deep, ha!

The island itself was stunning! We explored the steep city paths and walked nearly the whole city. Mont Saint Michel inspired the city in the movie Tangled and walking the ground reminded me of Diagon Alley in Harry Potter with the old, tall buildings and narrow alleys.

It was an incredible day and a very unique experience to walk through the bay.
