The Pamir Highway is a mountain "highway" through Tajikistan into Kyrgyzstan. Many people drive the rugged road from Dushanbe, Tajikistan to Osh, Kyrgyzstan. The border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan has been closed since 2020 due to a border war between countries but about 2 weeks before we started our adventure in the Pamirs, the border opened for tourists, yahoo! Austin and I had both separately researched the Pamir Highway (and Wakhan Valley) over the past couple of years so were both beyond excited for these mountains and this region of the world!

Below is a map of the Pamir Highway and the various off chutes. We rode the following route: Dushanbe to Kulob to Qalai-Khumb to 30km up the Bartang valley (lime green line) to Khorog to Ishkashim to Langar to Alichur to Murghab to Karakul to Sary Tash to Osh. The terrain was incredible and the people were extremely kind and generous. Throughout our time in the Pamirs, we did a combination of camping and also staying at homestays. Homestays are when you stay with a local family and they cook dinner and breakfast for you the next day. Homestays were a fun way to interact with the local people and learn about their lives in the mountains.
