We visited the original cathedral in Hamburg which was actually bombed and burned in WWII. The entrance and main steeple were still present and the bombings did not harm those too much but it was scorched black from the flames. The remains of the inside were bare but we could still walk through the “front doors” and imagine what the cathedral looked like. We could see partial walls and some corners of the building which helped us imagine what it looked like pre-WWII. It was a somber time to realize why it looked the way it looked in the current state. Within the memorial, there were current day photos and displays of the war going on in Ukraine which made it even more somber to think and reflect on the day to day some people are experiencing right now.
