Since we were in George Town over a weekend, we found a local English-speaking church for a Sunday service. Little did we know, the church had a big sporting event afterwards called the X Challenge so we signed up not knowing what it really was but anything sports-related, excites us both. For the church service itself, it always is amazing to be with other believers worshiping our magnificent God so church itself was very life-giving and special since we have not been around many churches during our time in SE Asia. At the end of the service, we got to pray all together and it was also powerful. At church we met some locals and also some bible school students who are serving about 2 months in Malaysia as part of their schooling. The group was part of YWAM out of New Zealand so we met a Kiwi and also some students who were studying that came from Europe and Canada.
For the X Challenge, we were all split into teams at random, there were 4 teams of about 13 people each, these were our teams. Austin and I were on different teams so we both made a lot of new friends (locals and visitors) throughout the sports day. The event consisted of 3 games: (1) Chinese-Malay game that I don't know the name of: it was a little similar to Red Rover, (2) Captain Ball: essentially basketball without dribbling and instead of a basketball you use a volleyball and instead of a hoop, you have a teammate standing on a chair ready to catch the ball after someone "shoots" it to them, and (3) Dodgeball: this is pretty self-explanatory. Captain Ball was so much fun since it was a sport that we were both "familiar" with. It got very competitive and afterwards, everyone was high-fiving and good friends. It was such a random but extremely fun day!
