After spending the day climbing, we ventured off for dinner and stumbled upon a very unique restaurant. We originally had a different place in mind but their kitchen closed right before we got there, thankfully! ;)

When we got to Stadsrestaurant, it was quaint and very homey. We were greeted by the kind staff and excited for our dinner since we were starving. About halfway through our meal, our server, Peter, mentioned that the restaurant was in the old police station and continued to tell us more about the place. The information he was sharing was all outlined on the menu in Dutch but we skimmed over to hunt for dinner options instead of translating the introduction.

Peter continued to explain how the restaurant is also very unique. He shared that it is involved in the local community with providing work opportunities to folks that are re-entering the workforce whether it was from a past drug addiction, prison, or everything in between. Peter was a volunteer server (on top of his full time job) so part of the staff choose to volunteer 1 night per week. Additionally, the decor within the restaurant was all locally sourced: the furniture was upholstered with leather from old jackets (it looked very nice), the iron work for one of the benches was created by a local guy, and a lot of their glass dishware was donated by locals so they said locals may eat from their own plate, ha!

The restaurant also had a snippet in their menu on how you can donate $10 to the restaurant and they serve a fresh meal to a individual within their care and welfare network. We loved that idea and how locally the restaurant is focused.

Peter and Sonia were very kind and asked to take our photo -- looking back, I wished I had gotten one of all of us but here is the photo she took!
