I found a spot where we could swim with whale sharks and it looked incredible! Both of us were so excited but we also questioned the ethics of the tour since the fishermen use food to attract the whale sharks which can throw off their migration patterns and weaken their natural hunting skills. Before these tours started a few years ago, local fishermen would kill whale sharks in fear they would eat all of the fish. Some locals saw the opportunity to use tourism to help protect the whale sharks by paying the fishermen to ensure their survival. Apart from feeding the whale sharks, the tour itself was pretty ethical as no one intentionally touched the animals and they were free to come and go as they pleased. It was one of our favorite days of the trip, swimming with such large fish was absolutely incredible!!
