One thing Djerba is known for is the abandoned hotels on the island. In 2015, there were a couple of very unfortunate terrorist attacks in Tunisia which wiped out their tourism industry. Djerba was a spot where it was clearly displayed, I have seen nothing like it. It was known for its beaches, resorts, and nightlife but now it is know for the abandoned hotels and how it feels apocalyptic in the off season. The beaches would be so stunning if they were well kept; they had soft bright white sand and the water was glowing shades of turquoise. We were there in the off season so it was even more empty than the summer holidays so it was rather bizarre. Here are some shots of the abanonded hotels that lined the beach:
