We arrived to Chaitén New Year’s Eve so all the stores were closed the day of our arrival and the next day for the holiday. When the 2nd of the month hit, we set off to search for a battery in town.

Chaitén is quite small so we were going to be surprised if they had the specific battery we wanted. After visiting 4 shops, we had no luck. The last shop we went to was the most promising so we asked them if they knew of a shop in a larger port town (Puerto Montt) north of Chaitén 12 hours and they said they knew of a shop and called them to ask if they had the battery we needed. Thankfully, they had it! We asked if they could put the battery on the ferry to Chaitén and they said we could if we pay for a taxi to transport it. Let’s just say, that was $10 well spent getting our battery on that boat! The boat is an overnight boat and leaves Puerto Montt at night and arrives to Chaitén the following day so we received the battery the next day! It was shockingly efficient and we were so glad it went smooth.

Once we got the battery in hand, we tested it and it was good to go. Austin popped the battery in the bike and connected all the wires and sure enough, Domino started up like a charm!
